.
The Seventh Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF7) will be held in Medellín, Colombia, from 5-11 April 2014. With the theme “Urban Equity in Development – Cities for Life,” WUF7 is expected to draw over 10,000 participants representing governments, UN agencies, non-governmental organizations, urban professionals, local authorities and academia. The WUF, convened by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), is a non-legislative technical forum.

WUF7 will further advance the outcomes of the Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development and contribute to the post-2015 development agenda. It is also part of the preparatory process of UN-Habitat’s Third UN Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III), to be held in 2016.

The WUF aims to lead a global effort to advocate for sustainable and equitable urban development and advance its placement on the political and media agenda. WUF’s first session was held in 2002 in Nairobi, Kenya, and is held every two years to address pressing issues facing human settlements, including rapid urbanization and its impact on cities, communities, economies, climate change and policies.

Three assemblies on gender, youth and business will convene on 7 April, just prior to the opening ceremony. During WUF, participants will meet in assemblies, dialogues, plenaries and special sessions, as well as in 11 roundtables, including the Ministers’ roundtable. City events, side events, networking events, cultural events and televised “urban talk” debates are also scheduled to take place during the Forum. As the host city, Medellín will showcase many of its innovative urban transformations, including solutions for accessible mobility and for public and green spaces in the city.
