UN World Data Forum 2021
Hosted by the Federal Statistics Office of Switzerland, the UN World Data Forum 2021 fostered discussions on ways to build a pathway for better data for sustainable development and options to promote data innovation, capacity building, and support.
4th Session of the Forum of Ministers and Environment Authorities of Asia Pacific
The Forum sought seeking to contribute regional perspectives on the pandemic recovery needed and put forward policy priorities for the upcoming resumed session of the fifth United Nations Environment Assembly.
9th Session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Water Convention
The meeting successfully highlighted the importance of transboundary water cooperation, welcomed Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, and Togo as new Parties, and saw the signing of the Ministerial Declaration on the Senegalo-Mauritanian Aquifer Basin by ministers from The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritania, and Senegal.
Collaborative Partnership on Sustainable Wildlife Management (CPW) Wildlife Forum 2021
With the pandemic putting wildlife management under close scrutiny, key messages emerged on land use, food security, zoonotic disease, trade, and human-wildlife conflict.
High-level Dialogue on Energy
The first high-level meeting to tackle energy issues under the United Nations General Assembly in 40 years demonstrated broad interest in accelerating ambition towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7) on affordable and clean energy and the net-zero emissions by 2050 goal of the Paris Agreement on climate change.
Energy Action Days
Immediately prior to the High-level Dialogue on Energy (HLDE), Energy Action Days brought together representatives of business, foundations, cities, youth and other segments of civil society to announce “Energy Compact” commitments.
17th Meeting of the Chemical Review Committee (CRC-17)
After a meeting dominated by questions about what constitutes a risk evaluation under the Rotterdam Convention, the Committee decided that two of the four chemicals considered met the criteria for listing banned or severely restricted chemicals. The others will be considered at the next meeting in 2022.
