60th Meeting of the GEF Council
The 60th meeting of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council adopted a Work Program worth USD 281.1 million that includes eight stand-alone full-sized projects on international waters, four on biodiversity, three on climate change mitigation, and two on chemicals and waste.
GEF Consultations with Civil Society
Prior to the 60th Meeting of the GEF Council, Secretariat staff and Council members engaged in a consultation with civil society organizations on the theme, “Enhancing Climate Resilience: The Role of Civil Society, and Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities.”
8th Session of the IPBES Plenary and Stakeholder Days
The Plenary met virtually to approve scoping reports for two future assessments on the interlinkages among biodiversity, water, food and health, and the underlying causes of biodiversity loss, as well as work plans for the intersessional period.
1st Global Meeting of National Focal Points under the 5th Montevideo Programme
The sessions managed to achieve its goals, including designating a first-ever Steering Committee to guide Programme implementation and selecting an initial focus area for substantive Programme work.
UN General Assembly High-Level Event on the Ocean
“There is no scenario where humans can prosper without the ocean.” The day's speakers called to accelerate progress on legally binding instruments to protect oceans from illegal fishing and marine plastic pollution.
2021 Sessions of the UNFCCC Subsidiary Bodies
Delegates agreed to meet virtually, with the subsidiary bodies focused on a smaller set of agenda items in informal consultations only. To assuage some countries, there was no negotiating text or draft decisions in preparation for COP 26. Rather, progress on each item was captured in an informal note.
