UNFCCC COP-9 HIGHLIGHTS
Thursday, 4 December

Today during the COP-9, delegates convened in plenary and met in contact and informal group meetings throughout the day. The contact groups included: Good Practice Guidance and Other Information on Land use, Land-use Change and Forestry (LULUCF); Methodological Work Under the Convention and the Kyoto Protocol; the Third Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC); among others.

PLENARY

During the 2nd Plenary meeting of COP-9 today, delegates reviewed the implementation of commitments and other provisions of the Convention, discussed national communications and heard the Report of the Executive Board of the clean development mechanism. During the 3rd Plenary meeting this afternoon, discussions continued on the last item cited above and the 5th meeting of the SBI followed.

Contact Group on Good Practice Guidance and Other Information on Land use, Land-use Change and Forestry (LULUCF):

This contact group discussed harvested wood products and the common reporting format, as well as other issues related to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Good Practice Guidance.

Delegates in the IPCC TAR contact group debated whether or not to forward a draft decision to the COP.

An alternative event taking place at COP, where delegates pick a card of another delegation and meet with them over a drink
to increase dialogue and decrease competition between different parties. This event is sponsored by the Italian NGO Committee at COP-9 (Italian Association Against Climate Change)
