Highlights for Saturday, 21 March 2009

On Saturday, participants attended two special focus sessions on “irrigation: efficient use of water in agriculture” and “climate-related disasters.” The thematic process came to a close, with wrap-up sessions on the themes “advancing human development and the MDGs,” “managing and protecting water resources,” and “education, knowledge and capacity development.” Ministers attended a series of roundtables to prepare for the Ministerial Conference Closing, to be held on Sunday. The Major Groups, which have convened on the sides of the Forum, also prepared for their closing sessions.

Green Forum Initiative: Hotel Greening Project: “Green Steps Award” Ceremony
The Green Forum Initiative has worked to reduce the environmental impacts of the 5th World Water Forum through waste-reducing projects and planting one tree for each Forum participant to help offset carbon dioxide emissions. Awards were presented to hotels, which through the Hotel Greening Project, were able to reduce their environmental impact.
