DAILY WEB COVERAGE

James Gasana, Vice-Chair, Switzerland, Collins Ahadome and Takeshi Goto, ITTO Secretariat, in discussions in the Joint Committee Session

ITTC-47

The Forty-seventh session of the International Tropical Timber Council (ITTC) and the Associated Sessions of the four Committees (Finance and Administration; Economic Information and Market Intelligence; Forest Industry; and Reforestation and Forest Management) entered its second day of discussions today in Antigua, Guatemala.

In the morning, delegates convened in a Joint Committee Session to hear the Report of the Expert Review Panel and discuss ex-post evaluations of several projects. The Joint Committee continued after lunch with presentations on a study of field-level implementation of SFM criteria and indicators and on a meta-analysis conducted to assess previously evaluated ITTO projects.

In the afternoon, the Committees on Finance and Administration (CFA) and Reforestation and Forest Management (CRF) met in parallel sessions. The CFA discussed contributions to the administrative budget, the status of the Administrative Account, the Special Account, the Bali Partnership Fund, and the auditor's report for 2010. Meanwhile, the CRF discussed agenda items related to policy work, including: revision of guidelines on sustainable management of natural forests; and outcomes from the International Conference on Forest Tenure, Governance and Small and Medium Forest Enterprises, with a focus on Asia-Pacific, held in Lombok, Indonesia, 11-15 July 2011. The CRF established working groups on: selection of projects for ex-post evaluation; and on CRF-related activities within the Biennial Work Programme 2012-2013.

In the evening, the Civil Society Advisory Group held an event on community-based forest management in Latin America.
