David Osborne, Australia, presented a report on the outcomes of Tuesday's
19 workshops, which he said were positive and constructive.
|

Veerle Vandeweerd, Coordinator, UNEP/GPA Coordination Office, presented
the Progress Report, Guidance document, and Programme of Work.
|

Yue Ruisheng, China, said much has been accomplished under the GPA,
including the development of National Plans of Action by over 60
countries.
|

Norway, on behalf of the OSPAR Commission, reported on activities under
the OSPAR Convention on the Protection of the Marine Environment of the
North-East Atlantic.
|

Victor Zveibil, Brazil, expressed concern with the low representation of
Latin American countries at IGR-2, and stressed South-South cooperation.
|

Torkil Jønch-Clausen, Global Water Partnership, called for a
stronger link between freshwater and oceans.
|

Morocco highlighted several areas, including innovative financing
mechanisms for developing countries, technology transfer, information
dissemination, and monitoring.
|

Ardi Stoios-Braken, the Netherlands, reaffirmed support for hosting
the Coordination Office in The Hague, and expressed preference for
its activities to be conducted at a "medium" level of resources.

Liu Guozhi, China, underlined developing countries' need for financial,
technical and management capability support.
|

Sateeaved Seebaluck, Mauritius, recalled the Bali Strategic Plan on
capacity building, and spoke of closer cooperation between the GPA and
multilateral environmental agreements.
|

The United Kingdom highlighted assessment work, proposed funding the
Coordination Office at the "appropriate" level, and asked it to prepare
annual work plans.
