The thirty-fourth meeting of the Open-Ended Working Group (OEWG 34) of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer reconvened on Tuesday, 15 July 2014, in Paris, France.
In the morning, delegates discussed issues related to ozone depleting substances (ODS), which included consideration of: the report by the Technology and Economic Assessment Panel (TEAP) on ODS; the report of the Scientific Assessment Panel on the main climate metrics; and information submitted by parties on their implementation of paragraph nine of decision XIX/6 to promote a transition from ODS that minimize environmental impact.
In the afternoon, delegates began their deliberations on the report of the TEAP on the 2015–2017 replenishment of the Multilateral Fund (MLF) as well as on the outcome of the Workshop on Hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) Management. A contact group on TEAP report on the 2015-2017 MLF replenishment was established. Informal discussions and bilateral meetings took place throughout the day on the margins of the OEWG.
A number of side events were held during the day. Topics included: methyl bromide; a global response to HFCs through fair and effective ozone and climate policies; and the new F-gas rules in Europe and their global impact.
