On Saturday morning, the plenary of the Article 8(j) Working Group adopted all outstanding recommendations, including on the voluntary guidelines on prior informed consent (PIC) and benefit-sharing from traditional knowledge use with bracketed references to "free" and "approval and involvement" for COP 13 consideration. Plenary then engaged in an in-depth dialogue on challenges and opportunities for international and regional cooperation in the protection of shared TK across borders for the strengthening of TK and the fulfillment of the three objectives of the Convention, in harmony with nature/Mother Earth. Co-Chair Choe gavelled the meeting to a close at 1:18pm.

The Working Group on Article 8(j) met on Friday morning in plenary to consider recommendations on: a glossary of relevant terms and concepts to be used in the context of Article 8(j) and related provisions; recommendations from UNPFII to the Convention; and on the preparation of the best-practice guidelines for the repatriation of traditional knowledge. Plenary also discussed possible topics for future in-depth dialogues on thematic areas and other cross-cutting issues. The contact group on the guidelines on PIC or approval and involvement and benefit-sharing from the use of traditional knowledge met in the afternoon and evening.

On Thursday morning, the Working Group on Article 8(j) continued consideration of the draft guidelines on PIC or approval and involvement, and on benefit-sharing from traditional knowledge use; and addressed repatriation of traditional knowledge related to biodiversity conservation and sustainable use, and UNPFII recommendations. In the afternoon, SBSTTA 19 discussed a draft recommendation on biodiversity and health, and adopted all remaining recommendations.

A contact group on the guidelines on PIC and benefit-sharing from traditional knowledge use met in the evening.

The ninth meeting of the CBD Working Group on Article 8(j) opened on Wednesday morning, and started consideration of draft guidelines on prior informed consent or approval and involvement, and on benefit-sharing in relation to traditional knowledge. SBSTTA 19 resumed consideration of revised recommendations in the afternoon and continued into the night.

On Tuesday, 3 November 2015, SBSTTA 19 delegates met in plenary throughout the day to consider: biodiversity and human health; climate-related geoengineering; forest biodiversity; and the work programme of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) for 2014-2018, SBSTTA's work and its relationship with CBD Subsidiary Body on Implementation. In the afternoon, delegates adopted a recommendation on the effectiveness of policy instruments for the implementation of the Biodiversity Strategic Plan.

On Monday, 2 November 2015, SBSTTA 19 delegates met in plenary throughout the day to address organizational matters, and consider strategic scientific and technical issues related to the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020: further consideration of the implications of the findings of the fourth edition of the Global Biodiversity Outlook (GBO 4), including with respect to biodiversity mainstreaming across sectors; key scientific and technical needs, and related research; tools to evaluate the effectiveness of policy instruments; and indicators.
