The sixth assessment cycle of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) started in 2015 and includes the preparation of the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report (AR6). After years of work and COVID-19 related delays, the IPCC will meet to approve the Summary for Policymakers (SPM) of the Working Group II (WG II) contribution to the AR6 and accept the underlying scientific technical assessment. WG II focuses on climate change impacts, adaptation, and vulnerability.

At the meeting, delegates will gather in the 12th session of WG II (WG II-12) and engage in line-by-line discussions of the draft SPM. During this process, the WGII Co-Chairs and the authors of the draft SPM will provide input and feedback, and respond to questions and comments. After WGII approves the draft SPM and accepts the underlying assessment, thereby concluding its agenda, IPCC-55 will meet to accept the actions taken at the WGII-12 session.

IPCC-55 and WG II-12 will take place from 14-25 February 2022. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting will be held online. Additionally, if needed and if COVID-19 related travel restrictions allow, facilities will be made available in Germany for a limited number of representatives solely to follow the sessions in a virtual mode.
