On the fifth day of its 14th Session, Working Group III (WGIII) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) continued its systematic review of the Summary for Policymakers (SPM) of the WGIII contribution on mitigation of climate change to the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6).

Delegates met in two plenary sessions to consider text related to strengthening the response to climate change, recent developments and current trends in anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions, and system transformations to limit global warming. Throughout this meeting, they are systematically opening and reviewing sections of text in plenary and in contact groups as needed, and then approving text line-by-line in plenary.

In contact group meetings, delegates discussed sections and subsections in the SPM relating to, inter alia:

  • pathways and warming levels;
  • mitigating emissions from industry and the Agriculture, Forestry, and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector;
  • pathways and projections for reducing greenhouse gas emissions;
  • the global economic benefits of limiting warming to below 2°C.

WGIII will continue its work on Saturday, 26 March 2022.
