On Wednesday, 30 March, Working Group III (WGIII) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) continued its line-by-line review of the draft text of the Summary for Policymakers (SPM) of the WGIII contribution to the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report. WGIII focuses on mitigation of climate change.

Delegates met in three plenary sessions to review and approve text related to: recent developments and current trends; system transformations to limit global warming; linkages between mitigation, adaptation, and sustainable development; and strengthening the response.

In contact group meetings, delegates discussed sections and subsections of the SPM relating to, inter alia:

  • sustainable development, synergies and trade-offs;
  • distributional impacts of enhanced mitigation actions, feasibility of mitigation options, and actions to shift development pathways toward sustainability; and
  • transitions to reduce GHG emissions.

WGIII will continue its work on Thursday, 31 March.
