28th Sessions of the UNFCCC Subsidiary Bodies and Sessions of the AWGs

Highlights from Friday, 13 June

6:00 pm local time, Bonn, Germany

SBI, SBSTA CONCLUDE THEIR WORK AS BONN CLIMATE TALKS END

The Bonn climate change talks have concluded with the closing of the SBI plenary. The end of the SBI followed the conclusion of the SBSTA earlier on Friday, which adopted its report and concluded its work shortly after midday. The AWG-LCA and AWG-KP concluded their work on Thursday evening.
The closing SBI plenary was delayed slightly delayed due to the conclusions on the second review of the  Protocol under Article 9  having been adopted only on Friday afternoon.". With delegates unable to agree on text on the second review, which is taking place at COP/MOP 4 in Poznan, Poland, in December, negotiations continued through Thursday night, Friday morning and into Friday afternoon. However, a compromise was eventually agreed under consultations facilitated by Ana Maria Kleymeyer (Argentina) and Adrian Macey (New Zealand).
Closing the SBI session, Chair Asadi said he was generally pleased with the outcomes from Bonn and emphasized that there is no alternative to multilateralism and finding “common solutions to common problems.” He declared the meeting closed at 5:34 pm.
