Highlights for Wednesday, 28 September 2005

Delegates met on Wednesday 28 in Plenary for the last day of IPCC-24. Outstanding issues included Election Procedures, Outreach, and the IPCC Programme and Budget for 2006-08.

In the late morning, Plenary was suspended to allow for contact group discussions on Rule 20 of the revised draft text on Election Procedures for IPCC Bureau and Task Force Bureau. Rule 20 addresses the cases where a country wishes to nominate a candidate who is not a national of the nominating country. The RUSSIAN FEDERATION , the REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA , and SAUDI ARABIA , opposed by most other delegations, requested the insertion of new language on text previously agreed in a contact group. Unable to agree on this, delegates agreed to continue the discussion on Rule 20 at IPCC-25.

In the closing plenary session in the afternoon, IPCC Secretary Christ said that IPCC-25 would be held either from 26-28 April 2006, in Mauritius, or, one week later in Nairobi, Kenya, and that confirmation of the venue would be posted on the IPCC web site. Chair Pachauri thanked the IPCC Secretariat, all delegates and participants, and closed the meeting at 4:09 pm (EST)
