Sixth Session of the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF-6)

13-24 February 2006 | UN Headquarters, New York

Highlights from Friday, 24 February 2006

On Friday, 24 February, the sixth session of the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF-6) met on its last day, with still many outstanding issues remaining regarding the future international arrangement on forests (IAF). Throughout the day and into the evening, delegates met in informal plenary sessions, occasionally breaking into contact and “bubble” groups to tackle thorny issues contained in the Chair's draft text. In the end, delegates were able to reach agreement on the development of a non-legally binding instrument, to be concluded and adopted at UNFF-7. At 11:30 pm, Chair Bahemuka gaveled UNFF-6 to a close.
